Beth Skaff - Hometown Hero

There are Heroes Among Us

Have you noticed that there are people in our community that quietly go about giving their time and/or their services to our community? These people do not do these projects for the recognition they could gain, but instead because they are kind, they see a need in our community and want to leave it better than they found it, or they go above and beyond what is expected of them in their job.

These are the heroes among us: the Hometown Heroes. Salem Chiropractic Clinic would like to recognize these individuals for the good they are doing for our community.

To kick off this series, we would like to recognize Beth Skaff, director of the McCook County Food Pantry in Salem. Skaff has been in this pinnacle role since 2018, after a friend asked her to take the project on.

Skaff always has a great attitude towards her work and loves to help when she can. “I do this to see the smile on people’s faces and to give them comfort in an uneasy situation,” Skaff states.

Volunteer Maggie Vanderlinde says, “Beth does so much behind the scenes that goes unrecognized. She really cares about the success of the food pantry as a whole. It is not just a job to her. She really cares about the community members that come to the pantry and is sure to connect them with other resources in our community if needed.”

The McCook County Food Pantry serves around 55-65 local families, which is no small feat. Skaff manages about 35-40 volunteers on a rotating basis to make the food pantry a success for our community.

Masey Pechholt - Hometown Hero

Hometown Hero Makes Difference for Area Kids

Continuing our mission to bring awareness to unsung heroes in the McCook County Community, Salem Chiropractic Clinic would like to recognize Masey Pechholt for her continued support and dedication to making a difference in local children’s lives.

Pechholt was instrumental in implementing the after-school program at McCook Central along with dedicating time and efforts to the Backpack Program for those who need a little help getting their school supplies.

Along with ensuring students have the best opportunities in their learning, Pechholt has a vested interest in their home life as well. Pechholt donates her free time in organizing the school’s sharing tree along with coordinating the distribution of a holiday meal in addition to donated gifts to students in need.

But Pechholt doesn’t only go above and beyond for the students. She promotes health and wellness within the school staff by organizing wellness activities and challenges within the district.

Superintendent Matt Alley states, “We are very lucky to have a talented educator leading our elementary and colony schools, and even luckier to have her as a contributing member of our community.”

From the staff at Salem Chiropractic Clinic, thank you Masey, for all the support you provide our community!
